TRAILBLAZERS IN AFRICAN SUSTAINABLE FASHION

1. THE OR FOUNDATION

The OR Foundation, a non-profit organization, is notable for its work in environmental justice, education, and sustainable fashion practices, particularly in addressing Africa’s fashion waste impact.

They’ve made a significant mark in Kantamanto Market, Africa’s largest secondhand market.

Their initiatives include paid apprenticeship programs aiding young women and girls in difficult conditions, particularly those working as Kayayei (head porters).

Additionally, they spearhead the Stop Waste Colonialism campaign, advocating for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles in the EU, a policy approach holding textile manufacturers accountable for their products’ entire lifecycle.
